Intelligent Recording of Sports?

I use SageTV 6 and recently recorded the San Diego/New England football playoffs game, and to my surprise when I watched it, the video stopped recording before the game was actually over (due to the game going to overtime!). I'm guessing this is due to the fact that the TV guide only says the game is 3 hours long and to stop recording after 3 hours.

Is there any functionality in any PVR software to provide intelligent recording of sports shows? Ideally, the recorder would plan to record for the 3 hours specified in the guide, but would reach out to ESPN.com or other sports websites to CONFIRM if the game is truly over. If it's not over, SageTV shoud continue to record until ESPN.com or other sites says it's over.

MythTV has something like this as I found here: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Myth_recording_extender

SageTV and other programs allow you to add padding to all tv shows recorded. I pad all tv shows by 2 minutes on either side just to account for difference in clock times between stations. People often will add a half hour or hour pad to important sporting events. It's something to consider if you can't find similar plugins to the mythtv one.

I'm not sure if MCE accounts for this. It would be nice if they did, but I typically will record an extra hour after the scheduled event. This is usually enough time.

it's the stupidest thing with all PVR/DVR's, and it's the guide's fault. ANYTIME i program sports shows, i usually have it record an extra 90 MINUTES!!!

Boxing is the worst on ESPN, as sometimes baseball games take forever & the boxing show won't air until like 2 hours later!!!!

I recently missed the end of a Laker game cuz i only had it set to record extra 30 minutes. NEVER AGAIN!!! 90 minutes!!! Tongue

Don't know how it works, but in Vista MCE there is a registry key to allow for extra padding for all sports events.  Smile

lol, well that's a tease if i ever heard one!!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrr Tongue

but then again, i'm so used to just adding the padding on the series, bleh! I think TV Guide's need to be safer. Like honestly ESPN, just say boxing lasts 4 hours. I don't think anyone is gonna freak out if they have to catch the 10pm airing of sportscenter if they miss the 9pm.

That's really cool!  I didn't know MRE existed.  I've always just setup football games to record an extra 60 min past what the guide says.  This is even better; I'll have to try it out. :)  And since I use Mythtv, I have no idea if other PVR apps support that type of thing (I didn't know mythtv did till just now).
