Video Demo of Kinect for Windows Media Center Beta

Kinect for WMC Beta

I recently attended a conference where one of the more exciting sessions I sat in on was a demonstration of the Kinect for Windows SDK. The applications being discussed in this demo were in no way Windows Media Center related, but it did occur to me at one point that would be a neat use for Kinect. Evidently I was not the only one as evidenced by this video of Brad Mauk demonstrating his Kinect for Windows Media Center application. Based on my experience navigating on the Xbox with Kinect, I would probably make more use of the speech interaction than the motion controls, but it sure would be nice to have the interface options the next time the remote goes missing.

Recently we wrote about a project to bring Kinect gesture control to Windows Media Center and the developer sent me a link to a video of the addin in action. In the video you can see Windows Media Center being controlled by voice commands as well as gestures and I have to say it seems to work surprisingly well. I think it may well be the voice control that would get the most use but for the cool factor gesture control is fantastic.
