News - ASUS Announces BRT-AC828 802.11AC AC2600 4x4 Wi-Fi router

I wasn't able to run down price or exact availabilty, but this is still quite an interesting looking device, even though it's not the latest wireless technology. As we can see from the photo above, the business oriented BRT-AC828 sports two WAN and eight LAN Gigabit Ethernet ports. Providing fail-over and enought connectivity that those of us who need a swtich next to the router should give this a once over. It's also the first router I'm aware of that offers M.2 storage capability on device.

News - NETGEAR announces NIGHTHAWK X10 R9000 802.11ac/ad Wi-Fi router with Plex

If you have $500 burning a hole in your pocket, and a desperate need to be the first one on your block to have an 802.11ad Wi-Fi router with 10Gbe fiber support (?) - the newly announced NETGEAR NIGHTHAWK X10 is just the thing for you. That's not to say, it doesn't have some useful features though; like powererd TX/RX (new v. X8) anntennas and Plex support (!) built into the box. That said, I've very curious about the transcoding limitations. Anandtech is listing the SoC as one quite similar to what was in the RN212 - which works, but had some caveats attached. Either way, exciting times. For the well heeled anyway Smile. BTW, anyone know where I can find an 802.11ad Wi-Fi adapter?

News - ASUS announces RT-AC58U 802.11AC 2x2 Wi-Fi router

Not everyone wants, needs, or is willing to pay for the top-of-the-line tri/quad stream 802.11AC Wi-Fi router. For those who fall into that category, but still want modern features like MU-MIMO the ASUS RT-AC58U might be just the thing. It is launching at the end of September, but price hasn't been disclosed yet so we'll have to wait and see it where this falls in the value-for-money spectrum.

Update: I was able to run down pricing (£89.99), but unfortunately is now delayed until December.

News - D-Link EXO AC1900 Wi-Fi router now shipping

Not everyone wants, or needs, a monster Wi-Fi router that costs $200-300 so it's great to see that D-Link is bringing out devices like the EXO, that with AC1900 speeds should be plenty in many scenerios and still ahve that angry insect look (that I like) going on.

News - Linksys EA7500 reviewed at SmallNetBuilder

I think this is the only MU-MIMO AC1900 router I've seen so far. It's certainly a unique product there, and at $200 it is consistent with other AC1900 802.11AC routers. So it might be worth having a look at the Linksys EA7500.

News - Securifi adds Almond 3 to consumer home automation router lineup

I love the idea of a home router hub that integrates all the radios necessary for home automation (HA) in the same box. I've heard mixed reviews of Securifi's kit since it launched, but it's great that they are inovating and bringing a cheaper model to market. Hit up AnandTech for the details on their newest, cheaper, model.

News - ASUS CES 2016 announcements

I think ASUS forgot to mention HTPC as a key use case for its recently announced mini-PCs. Looking at the spec's and product photos, they would slot right into the A/V cabinet Smile.

News - D-Link CES 2016 announcements

D-Link made a few announcements earlier today around new products and features (IFTTT!), but I think the most interesting is a home 802.11AC kit with adaptive roaming. Of all the questions I get asked about Wi-Fi, how to seemlessly extend a wireless network is the most common. Adaptive roaming has been around for ages in the enterprise space, but AFAIK this is the first really consumer oriented product to offer the automated AP hand-off feature. I'm really looking forwared to testing it - if it lives up to the billing, D-Link will have a fantastic feature advantage. Here's to hoping that it's not just a kit feature, but also something that can be added to their existing routers as well.

News - Amped Wireless announces pair of AC2600 MU-MIMO home Wi-Fi devices

It's unclear to me what's different between the router and Amped Wireless's earlier AC2600 device, but it's great that they now have an AC2600 extender and the price of both is pretty compelling.
