CME To Launch 1440p TV

I am not sure I have heard of a 1440p resolution before. Not letting standard step in the way of progress, CMO is releasing a 2560X1440 47" Quad HD LCD TV. Slated for production in Q2 of '07, CMO's QHD will have a brightness of 450 nits, a contrast ration of 1500:1 and a response time of 6.5ms.

Continuing on the success of its 56-inch Quad Full High Definition
(QFHD) panel (3840×2160), which the company claims has the highest resolution of
any LCD TV panel in the world, CMO said it is now starting a new global trend in
flat panel LCDs with its new 47-inch panel featuring a 16:9 aspect ratio and a
3.68 million pixel display (2560×1440).

Extreme Definition

A related term is Extreme Definition (or XD). This is a term used on the Internet, referring to the 1440p
– 2560×1440 – resolution. The term was formulated with Extreme High
Definition in mind, since both standards share the 2560 pixel
horizontal resolution. To avoid confusion between the two resolutions,
however, the word high was left out.

At the moment, there are no commercial releases in the 1440p format. Only demo videos and some movie trailers are available in Extreme Definition.
