Judge Rules Against RealDVD

Well, AnyDVD can I guess breathe a sigh of relief that they are still in a class of their own for "backing up" your movies to your computer, as the case against Real Networks for their RealDVD-copying software has been finalized and forbids them from selling it. It’s just a shame really given how slow digital copy has progressed…maybe we’ll have more luck with Blu-ray’s managed copy.

U.S. District Court Marilyn Patel, in an order issued late Aug. 11, wrote that RealDVD “circumvents a technological measure that effectively controls access to or copying of the studios’ copyrighted content on DVDs.” Patel’s order effectively bars RealNetworks from selling RealDVD in any form, including its Facet DVD player that can create and store DVD copies.
