Not All H67 Motherboards Will Support Ivy Bridge
A few weeks ago Intel released a BIOS update for their H67 Media Series motherboards that provided support for next generation 22nm CPUs, better known as Ivy Bridge. Shortly their after the file was pulled because of issues with bricked boards. Well today an updated BIOS dropped offering this, and a few other features. As I was working my way through the release notes I was surprised to find this page; which documents, in a somewhat unclear way, that some boards won’t be making the cut. Disappointing given the information previously available; have to wonder if other OEMs will be publishing their own decision trees in the next couple months…

Well, Intel doesn’t have to
Well, Intel doesn’t have to worry about selling me an Ivy Bridge CPU anytime soon. Two of the boards (DH67BL and DH67GD) I checked are not capable. Can’t check my DH67CF boards at the moment but they were purchased at similar times as the other two, so it is probably a bust for them too.
While somewhat of a disappointment, it just means I am upgrade free until Haswell.
You know, I wasn’t thinking
You know, I wasn’t thinking of upgrading (ive got an athlon x4 in my htpc anyways), but it just occurred that maybe I should think about it: I currently have a nvidia GTS450 as my video card and the fan has gotten loud(er than I prefer). I had been waiting for a lower-end amd 7000 series GPU to be released with passive cooling, but maybe going ivy bridge and using the IGP is the way to go. I guess I’ll just have to wait until does some proper htpc-specific testing.
That’s what we’re here for

Nice post! This is a very nice blog that I will definitively come back to more times this year! Thanks for the informative post.
