Well it seems that my younger brothers’ (11 y/o twins) xbox just died with a ‘general hardware failure’. MS has extended the warranty on units with this nondescript problem to 3 years. I have read some posts around here (jennyfur?) mentioning that MS is coming out with a new more reliable (65nm?) version soon and I was wondering what the best warranty claim strategy would be.
When are the new versions due? An, admittedly quick, Google search only came up with news from April talking about a Fall release. Is this still accurate?
Any Idea on the chances of getting a new version as a warranty replacement? How long should I recommend they wait to improve the chances of getting the new version? The unit is nearing 1 year old, but with the extended 3 year warranty there is room for some strategy.
Does anybody have any links to a non-technical or at least not-too-technical article that I can send to my mom to help her and my brothers understand the situation?
Thanks.
