I am privileged enough to have a review copy of Star Trek The Original Series Season 1 on HD DVD, it looks amazing. If you didn’t know CBS/Paramount started restoring Trek last September on the 40th anniversary. They found that the old space shots looked terrible (due to the optical matte process of the pre-CG era) in 1080p, so they also set about replacing those shots with CG that can hold up. Season 1 is due to come out next Tuesday. If you love Star Trek, have an HDTV, and HD DVD player this is one to have. It looks amazing, and the new CG is generally quite good.
I’ll have a review of the boxed set up at trekmovie.com by tomorrow, it includes full resolution 1080p frame grabs, thanks to AnyDVD HD and Media Player Classic 😉
