I’ve been planning my build for the fall and that work has come along nicely. It’ll be ideal timing as some things get clarified over the next few months with regards to the Nvidia 790 motherboard chipsets, the G45 from Intel (leaning towards this) and a variety of audio/video cards being released. However, I’ve just realized that I’ll have almost an entire HTPC of old components. What on earth do I do with them? Would be willing to buy a couple used parts (new ones don’t exist) if I need to swap motherboard or such…
CPU: AMD Athlon XP-M 2400+ 35W (can easily OC or UC)
Heatsink/Fan: Scythe Kamakaze (probably a little tall for client case).
Motherboard: DFI Infinity nForce2 MCP-T (i think, the one with DD encoding) – Full ATX
RAM: OCZ 512 MB
Video: ATI 9800 Pro w/ Artic Cooling Silencer (could remove it, but would prefer to keep it on if resued)
Power Supply: Seasonic 380W – Full ATX
Hard Disk: Samsung 160GB – 3.5″
Fan: Panaflo 80mm
Thoughts anyone? Problems I see are if I build a client, playback of H.264 material that is recorded via an HD-PVR. Any other ideas for what I could build aside from client or server?
