I built a “Media” PC for my father-in-law and was trying to keep things very simple for him as he has never used a computer before. However I hit a snag in a place that I did not expect, and I thought I had thought of everything. The dang Hauppage remote is conflicting with his Magnavox LCD TV. Of all buttons, the “OK” button is the biggest problem. When pushing OK, to make a selection in Sage, it changes his TV to channel 5. I had to use the “Link Ir” in Sage and made the red button on the Hauppage button the “Select” button for Sage. But this is not intuitive, and it’s easy to forget and push the OK button. The blue button on the remote also does something to the TV, but right now don’t remember what that was. I didn’t test every single button on the remote so I don’t know what other conflicts there may be. I’m assuming there is nothing I can do to change anything, right? Unless we change the TV or the remote. He wants a bigger hard drive so that he can record (something that wasn’t in the original plan) so I’m thinking of installing MCE 2005 and using that instead of Sage and talking him in to getting a Microsoft remote (but those things are getting hard to find).
