I’ve probably got the terminology wrong, but I’m looking for some help on properly setting up my HTPC/receiver to auto-switch from 2-channel PCM when playing music to 5.1 LPCM when playing a movie/video, over the HDMI outputs of my HTPC. Currently, it seems to work, however I noticed that my sub doesn’t wake up when I play back a 2-channel source, despite having my receiver configured with the front L/R speakers set to “small”. My receiver displays HDMI multi-channel input whenever my HTPC is selected, regardless of what it’s playing, so I suspect it’s stuck in a 5.1 LPCM mode.
I realize I can use the “Bass Management” enhancements to make the HTPC route signals under a programmable crossover to my sub, so that may be the only solution, but when I used S/PDIF I had it auto-switching so I’m wondering if there’s an HDMI equivalent.
