I have a question about mp4 and h.264 playback. Hardware acceleration is needed on blurays, but would the newer cards be needed to play any h.264 file? I know with DVD Fab Decrypter you can convert a DVD to xvid or h.264. I usually choose xvid because I figure it’s easier on the hardware during playback if the machine is not that powerful. Am I on the right track or would pretty much anything play an h.264 file?
Pretty much the same question concerning mp4. I’ve began ripping some of my blurays to mp4, but will the mp4 play on any thing if it’s at 720p? Or should I drop the quality down if I want it to play on slower PC’s? For example, if I was going to play on a socket A Sempron (2.0 ghz) with a Geforce FX 5700.
