Toasted my power supply today. Put another hard drive in the other week, so that may have been the straw that broke the camels back. It was a cheap HP 300W power supply, so I‘m not exactly shocked. So I’m thinking about a corsair PSU now. I don’t probably need much power now, but want to keep my options open for the future. So I’m debating between:
VX450 – $70 (Probably all I need)
VX550 – $90 (Extra power for future needs? PCI-E 6+2 pin)
HX650 – $120 (Modular would sure be nice, but at almost twice the cost of what I really need, hard time finding lower wattage)
What would you suggest? I’m open to other brands too, but want to stay with some of pretty decent quality.
Primarily a HTPC only, don’t do gaming or anything with this machine. I’m in a tower now, but may switch to smaller case some day. Set up is:
AMD X64 X2
2 hard drives
1 optical drive
Future video card support (currently un-powered)
Hauppauge 1800
Any opinions are appreciated. Thanks.
