I wish I’d found this website about a week ago.  I’ve been thinking of doing an HTPC for a while, but hadn’t found too many resources for building one until the last couple weeks.  Then with the July 4th sales Newegg ran I figured enough out to where I thought I could do something decent and got some pretty good deals between combos and promo codes.  If I’d found this website earlier I would’ve had a much better idea of what I was doing, but I think I’ll work.

Here’s what I have so far:

Case: Lian Li PC-C32B (I wanted to go ATX for more room inside, and ultimately I’d like to do something rackmountable, which this can do)
PSU: SeaSonic X650 Gold (I went with this after seeing it’s favorable reputation on Silent PC Review)
MB: ASUS P7P55D-E (Combo deal with the processor, and seemed like it had better features than the Intel offering)
CPU: Intel Core i5-750 (Should be plenty of power and seemed like a good ratio of wattage/performance from a review I saw on Silent PC Review)
Gfx: ZOTAC ZT-20404-20L GeForce GT 240 (saw this recommended in Tom’s Guide forums and was attracted to it being fanless… I really want this computer as quiet as possible)
Ram: 8GB Corsair DDR3 1300 (Amusingly, it was cheaper to buy 2 4GB packs than 1 8GB pack, and the shipping was free on the 4GB packs but not on the 8)
HDD: Seagate 1.5TB 7200RPM (Saw a drive with those specs show up as being quiet but fast in a chart on Tom’s Guide; I’m really hoping this is the same one and that the Seagate knock is a distant memory… The last computer I built 8 years ago had a Seagate hard drive and never had any problems)
I/O: LG WH10LS30K 10X Blu-ray Burner – LightScribe Support (I like having the option to burn Blu-Ray and hope I can use it to make a backup of every episode of Conan O’Brien’s new show)
I/O: Rosewill RCR-IC002 74-in-1 USB 2.0 3.5″ Internal Card Reader (Figured I should have a card reader and it was on special)
Wifi: ASUS PCI-G31 IEEE 802.11b/g (No ethernet where I’m currently going to use the computer.  Really hoping the card and the mobo being from the same company means there won’t be issues)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I’m still planning to buy:

Keyboard/Remote: nMEDIAPC HTPCKB-B Black (Having a trackball on the keyboard seems like a big plus, and needing 1 dongle to work both also seems like a good plan.  I just wish the remote also did IR so I could use it to turn the TV on and off.  Side note: the manufacturer’s website led me here)
Tuner: Ceton InfiniTV 4 (waiting to buy until the shipments start coming regularly)
Thinking of getting a couple more case fans for airflow.  The case can put a 140mm fan in the top and an 80mm in the back.

Does it look like I’m missing anything?  It’s been 8 years since I built a computer so I’m feeling a little rusty about all this.  I probably won’t actually be able to assemble this until August, but it’d be nice to get it going sooner so I could hook it up to the TV and watch the Tri-Nations rugby tournament on the big screen.  I want to have the tuner in and ready to go before Conan O’Brien’s new show on TBS.  I watched The Tonight Show on Hulu mostly but sometimes would miss a few episodes before they expired.  In my minor obsession I want to try to make sure I don’t miss any episodes and ideally would be making a backup DVD or Blu-Ray.  I don’t even know yet if TBS will make the episodes available for streaming online, although I think they’d be stupid not to (but that’s another issue entirely).
