I have set the server to itself, client pcs, pictures, music, video and documents. The system dedicated a drive to this VHD file. I’d like a secondary backup of just music, pictures, video and docs that I can pull out of the system. I was wondering there was a good sync app that could point to the multiple locations and run all the sync ops. I am using beyond compare to manually compare but I’d prefer something that I could click the go button and walk away.

mentioned in the podcast but haven’t used it yet, but will Microsoft’s SyncToy work? Only issue is it won’t do file-by-file verification but it does report what doesn’t transfer through. And it’s free

I just downloaded it now. Once my manual sync is done I will set it up.

          Thanks,

          Phil

I use SyncToy to fake folder dup on my file server.  Works great.

I also use SyncToy.  But I use it to sync two full drives between PCs.  It’s my own little way of “mirroring” a drive that holds critical data.  Used to just use Raid1 but after the kids accidently deleting some files, I discovered a Mirror didn’t work so great.  🙂

That led me to SyncToy, splitting the two drives among two PCs that are “always on” anyway.  Sync ’em up, and then use Carbonite for one of them to back up to the web.

I’ve also used AllWaySync which also works VERY well.  You may want to check them out too as it’s more customizable then SyncToy.  It’s also free for personal use.

+1 for SyncToy.  I used it for a long time (since early XP days).  I’ve since moved to a custom SyncFramework tool but does pretty much the same thing.

I created 3 folder pairs and have synctoy scheduled to sync around 4am. I think I’ll take a look at Flickr also so I have an offsite backup.

                  Thanks for the tips.
