This message appears when you hover the mouse pointer over the
MC icon in the system tray.

What does it mean? What “log”?

No one in the community know what this means?

I’ve tried looking in google but I’m unable to find an explanation.

Thought somebody here was bound to know.  Here’s what I’m talking about.

It means it is downloading a guide update (can also include “packages” such as Netflix).

Yes but when you right click the MC icon, I have

“enable Guide Listing Downloads” deselected – so why is it downloading anything?

          MCE is not even open.

I really don’t use MCE often – I’d like to disable the whole thing, unles I can make it a little more benign.

Any thoughts ?  I’d like it to do nothing, until I open MCE.

Using msconfig, I checked the startup items.  Only thing I cansee related to this is ehtray.exe

It is run via ehtray and scheduled tasks.  ehtray will be re-enabled everytime you run ehshell (though there is a registry key to disable that)

              OK.

Can you tell me how to “disable” any activity with the MC until I open it.

              Is it possible?

If the service is already running, look on the right side of your task bar:  Find the Media Browser Service icon (you may have to show hidden icons) and right click on it.  In the popup menu, select Exit and the service will close.  It will restart each time you reboot.

If you’re comfortable with changing your computer Startup configuration, do the following:

(Win 7) Press Start > All Programs > Accessories> Run

In the Open dialog box type msconfig and click OK

                Click on the Startup folder

Clear the check mark next to MediaBrowser Service then click Apply

Click OK to exit > the Service will not start on next reboot.

                    Hello –

there is no startup item called “mediacenter”. Likewise, there is no icon I can click and select “exit”

I am running Vista with TV pack – could that be the reason?

As I mentioned earlier, the only item in the startup tab that’s in any way related is ehtray.exe

Since I don’t use it that often, I ended up hiding the program (which stops it running)

I did this in Vista using start/default programs.
