Yesterday while watching TV there was a huge boom of thunder and a crack of lighting and now I have no sound from my HTPC over HDMI. I have an ATI card and for some time this was an issue without losing power in the past but not on the current driver. It was always fixed upon rebooting or powering down and powering up (both the TV and the HTPC). I have yet to try another input on the TV or another device on the input the HTPC is on. Assuming it is not an issue at the TV, is it possible the sound on the video card is dead despite the video working just fine? Absent it being the TV that is broken I am a little stumped on how to trouble shoot this. I installed the newest driver from AMD and that did not fix it either. Multiple power off and power on and still no sound. I even turned the surge strip off. When it happened I got an immediate HDCP error in Media Center (I was watching a football game).

BTW first thing this morning I ordered a UPS APC from New Egg.

Do you get any sound from the system at all such as when using the test tones in the audio device properties?

Do you have any other HDMI device such as a BD player that you could use to verify your receiving equipment is okay?

No sounds. On the speaker icon in the task bar tray a red x is over the speaker. It says no device connected. In control panel I get the same thing. The audio devices are grayed out with red x. They report as being present and working but nothing hooked to them (would seem to indicate TV issue). I will hook my XBOX up tonight and see if I get sound from the TV. Obviously removing the TV as the issue is an easy one, I was too tired to mess with it last night. I should probably also try a different HDMI cable.
