    Hello,

Does anyone know if I can record & watch Copy-Once content in a VM if I use the DCA Overwrite with a CableCard tuner?

I’d like to do that because if my HTPC is in a VM I won’t break my DRM on previously recorded programs when upgrading PC’s

I plan on either using a SiliconDust HDHomerun Prime or a Ceton InfiniTV 4 in a separate machine and then use the network tuner software in the VM.

    Thanks,

    Nick

You can record both and watch Copy-Freely on any system connected to your network; however, Copy-Once will not be viewable with the exception of a RemoteFx RDP session.

        Michael,

I was going to try to add a dedicated pcie passthrough video card to the VM and output only to that card.

Do you know if there is any success in trying that?

        Thanks

        Nick

I tried that and was able to get it to work but very inconsistently.  It resulted in intermittent drop outs and I couldn’t go more than 5-10 minutes without a HDCP error.

I didn’t play with it long though and that was over a year ago so it may have improved.

OK, I might try it but it sounds to me Hyper-V and RemoteFX is my best bet.

What hypervisor did you try the pcie passthrough in?

            Thanks

I was using XenServer.  I believe 5.x.  XenServer 6.0 may have better results.  I briefly tested with ESXi but at the time VT-d wasn’t working properly.
