HP Pavilion Media Center TV m7690n PC

Personally, I prefer building systems myself, or if I have to buy a system, going from smaller vendors like PC Alchemy, Niveus, Vidabox, etc., since I've always felt you get more attention from those guys since their customers are more important to their success since they're smaller. But, there's something to be said about the big boys, and being able […]

Sony VPL-VW50 1080p SXRD Front Projector

sony-sxrd

Quite a price drop for Sony, their firs SXRD projector was $30,000….this one comes in at around $5000…yeah….I'd say that might help sales a bit. Some moments I had with the Sony VPL-VW50 1080p SXRD front projector rivaled my experience with much costlier projectors. Granted, the uniformity problem I encountered with black-and-white and (to a much lesser extent) some color […]

Home automation makes life easier

Nothing revolutionary here, but a great example of how a family is utilizing home automation to do pretty much everything. Let's just hope HAL..err….Rosie…doesn't get mad & try to kill them all, eh? 😛  Rosie has control of lights, the garage door, the thermostat and fans. She can also play MP3s, monitor the stock market, provide the weather forecast and […]

Should the Xbox Be Your Set-Top?

I don't know about you guys, but my STB is no where near as loud as my 360, even when it's just doing basic extender functions. LG Electronics (LGE) recently said shipments of its PDPs (plasma display panels) dropped 36% sequentially to 580,000 units in the fourth quarter of 2006 due to sever competition from LCD technology in the worldwide 40-inch-class TV market. Read the rest here.

Westinghouse & Toshiba LCD Display Reviews

westhouse

I came across both TV reviews around the same time so figured I'd post them together. One is a Westinghouse 46" 1080i LCD, and the other a more modest Toshiba REGZA 37" LCD TV. Both will cost around $2000, but it looks like the Toshiba's reviewers like theirs more than the Westinghouse.     The LTV-46w1 features a 46" viewing […]

Build Your Own HTPC/PVR

Wink

I really like these types of articles, even if I don't agree with everything said, mostly because a lot of times it will give people ideas they didn't think of, or create debate amongst other users. he doesn't really go a route I'd recommend–using an old computer like this is just going to make you want to improve anyways, so […]

Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-500 MCE Review

With all the new Hauppauge Vista tuners coming soon, I'm not sure why Virtual-Hideout is reviewing the PVR-500MCE which has been around for a few years. But, nonetheless, I'm sure there's still plenty people out there trying to decide on a tuner NOW. But if you can wait, it'll be curious to see how Hauppauge's new tuners stack up. Although […]
