MythTV Reloaded – Day 7

I think I’m ready to do a full system changeover tomorrow night.  That’ll be the moment of truth.  We’ll see how much I’ve missed at that point.  I’m sure there’s something.

Why, oh why, did I have to say that?!

So, as it turns out, I did miss a couple of things.  Let’s start with my wife’s laptop.  Fail!  As luck would have it, I didn’t really consider her use case for viewing MythTV content on her laptop.  Generally speaking, she watches recordings while doing other things such as editing photos or doing general web surfing.  The MythTV frontend application is really meant to take over the UI and be a fully immersive experience.  Previously, she used MythTv Player and that would run in a window that would allow her to continue to use her laptop for other purposes also.  Doh!  Needless to say, I quick jumped over to the MythTv Player website and downloaded the most recent version that works with 0.24.  Five minutes later she was up and running again but I did get a couple of glares in the process…  Oops.

Now onto my next failure.  I must have run an update on my main frontend (yum upgrade) prior to shutting the system off after I first set it up and not restarted it to make sure that it worked properly because when we went to turn it on today the system would boot but instead of showing the screen indicating what services are being loaded and whatnot I got a black screen.  After poking at it a little bit I was able to get to a command prompt by killing the automatic boot process in grub and editing the kernel boot parameters (removed rhgb, quiet and added init 3).  This booted me to the command line.

This is as far as I got today.  Hopefully that will go quickly and I will have everything up and running again without too much more pain.  Today WAF took a hit.  Never a good thing.
