Read moreAs much as I resist promoting Kickstarter projects, I just can’t help myself here. There’s just so much fun to be had with this OpenCV hardware. Bold claims are made around the setup-to-running time, but even if those are exponentially wrong, it’s still a massive win assuming they actually come to market. Although, given that it’s about $460k over the […]
Read moreDon’t tell anyone, but it’s been all over Reddit that the UniFi Protect G4 Doorbell was in EA. Apparently today is the day when it GA’d, because I received an “in-stock” notice, but unfortunately by the time I clicked on it (2 minutes later) it was sold out. Damn! Spec’s are pretty much in-line with a Ring Pro doorbell: dual-band […]
Read moreI think RHA really missed the boat by not offering a burnt orange version of their 2nd generation TrueConnect wireless headphones. We’ll just have to make-do with either a black or navy ;). That said, they look great, offer fantastic battery life (9+ hours from the buds, and 35 in the charging case), capacitive touch control, wide mobile assistant integration, […]
Read moreUbiquiti released the 1.7.2 stable firmware for the Unifi Dream Machine (UDM) and Unifi Dream Machine Pro (UDM-Pro) gateway devices over the weekend. There isn’t a massive amount of detail in the release notes around what was improved, but they definitely stealth fixed an pretty major issue for those using SFP+ WAN connections.
Read moreIt’s been known for a while that Ubiquiti (UI) was coming out with a new Protect network video recorder (NVR) that sorts many of the issues with the current generation of their devices. Most notably the lack of disc redundancy. With support for four drives, that can be run in either RAID 1 or RAID 5 (not sure how the […]
Read moreUbiquiti released a new “stable” firmware update for the UDM & UDM-Pro. This is huge news because the UDM hasn’t really gotten the love it deserves, despite being first to market. Undisclosed in the release notes is the ability to restore from a non-default backup, which unfortunately doesn’t go well for me…
Read moreNormally Kickstater pitches are around securing funding for a product, but this one from HTPC TV capture stalwart SilconDust has already passed the funding goal, just a few hours into the campaign. So congrats to them, and a “better hurry” to everyone else that wants in on the first round of HDHomeRun ATSC 3.0 hardware. And since it’s coming from […]
Read moreVudu is my favorite platform for streaming movies because they prioritize quality, both on the audio and video side of things. While it’s not quite as good as UltraHD Blu-ray, it’s close enough that I don’t feel the same necessity to own a disc that I used to. I guess it’s not really surprising that Walmart would sell off Vudu, […]
Read moreGood news if you are a fan of Linux kernel RAID, but everyone else is SCREWED :). Interestingly the author didn’t discuss the software solution I use (Windows Storage Spaces). Before going all in on WSS, I did test that I could migrate the array between boxes, but since raw performance wasn’t a massive concern I didn’t test that directly. […]
