Sounds like an S3 issue. You didn’t specify XP, Vista, or Windows 7, but I know Windows 7 has about 3 options for the NIC. Also, ensure that the BIOS is set to allow the NIC to wake the computer.
If you do decide on another NIC, I’d go with Intel.
