3D is a bit tricky. It is certainly an interesting concept, but has many drawbacks. For example, the requirement of the glasses. Having to put on a pair every time I want to watch a movie would certainly take away from the experience. Lighting is another issue. If the room is not dark enough, the light can lessen the 3D effect and the eye’s ability to focus the image properly. This again, just results in a headache.
Then there is the issue of content. Sure there are some great things that are great, and would be great, in 3D. Such as the new Avatar movie. However, do you really want everything to be in 3D even if we could get the technology to do so without the requirement of funny coloured glasses?
Don’t get me wrong though. I definitely like the fact that technology is coming along so vastly and opening up so many options for even us lowly home theater fanatics. And I surely look forward to some of the amazing 3D offerings that are sure to come thereafter, but it just begs the same questions that the whole smellivision brought about….is it something we really want that bad and do we want it for everything or just some of it?
Anyway, interesting post and just some of my thoughts on the whole 3D topic.
