How long has people complained about ATI’s drivers? And they still can’t seem to get it right. It’s a dog-gone shame when you prepare for the worse, and you GET the worse. Today I decided I’d update to the latest 7.12 drivers for my 2600xt. Luckily, I was smart enough to create a Restore point before doing so. After I installed the new drivers and the PC rebooted my resolution was 640 x 480. So I go to CCC to change my resolution and set my Component Output properties, and guess what…I can’t change a darn thing because my “OK” button is below my task bar. The mouse won’t go down far enough to hit it, and even if it did I’d be like feeling around in the dark because I can’t see it. So I think, “Fair enough, I’ll just change it with the Properties/Settings way.” Wrong. If I slide it over to 1920 x 1080, the screen starts to roll. I have to wait for it to revert back to 640 x 480. I even brought a monitor in and hooked it up, but then that disabled the TV out and I lost my options for Component Output. But I don’t think it’d really matter; when I had 7.11 I had no problem changing the rez from the Properties/Settings to 1920 x 1080. I shouldn’t HAVE to do it from CCC. So I don’t know what’s going on. I just used System Restore to get it back to 7.11. The reason I was updating was because last night my screen started to flicker again and even went black one time for a few seconds. If you remember when I first got it my screen was going blank and I thought it was because my component dongle was not fully inserted, but I checked last night and it was OK. I’m not sure what’s wrong. It had been perfect for quite a while so I don’t know what caused it; it’s been fine since it cleared up last night, too. It couldn’t have been any overheating issue ’cause it happened right after the PC booted up.
