Updating my video drivers are always a last resort for me as it’s always an adventure and circus act. Apparently it takes magic to actually get things working correctly. Currently I’m running 9.6 drivers, but I decided to take a stab at updating to the 9.9 drivers to see if it would affect my stuttering problem with recordings and live TV. Sure enough it was yet another adventure in ATI land. >:( I use component cables connected to my Toshiba 50″ rear projection. Every time the drivers are changed I come back to a rolling screen. Then I have to drag out my 17″ crt monitor and hook it up just so I can see what’s going in. Then I have to fight with it to see the HDTV connected and then set it back as the primary monitor. This time however, no matter what, CCC would not recognize the Toshiba as being able to go above 720 x 576 (or something like that) which still resulted in a rolling screen. Why the hell can’t it tell what your current settings are when starting the driver install and reapply those same settings when finished? The whole root of the problem is that after the installation it resets the resolution to 1024 x 768, which my TV can’t handle!
