I’d just like to expand on #3 and #14.
3. Ability to move the recorded content to any other device. DRM is non-existent.
This includes the ability to share all of your content (recorded, downloaded, backed up from DVD) to as many client systems as you want. I currently have all my stuff available to 3 systems in my house.
I’ll also add:
17. You can run master/slave backends allowing you to have a distributed set of tuners all working together. For an example, I can have multiple systems, each with its own tuner, and they can all communicate with each other allowing all systems to see all shows. Another use for this would be that if I fill my server with tuners but want to still add more, I can have a secondary server to house more tuners. Essentially, this gives me capability of unlimited tuners. I’m currently running two servers; one houses 3 analog tuners, one houses an HD tuner.
18. Sorta mentioned in 17, but Mythtv can run in a multi-client/multi-server mode. Clients can be run independently of or on the same system as servers.
