I agree, I wouldn’t take this approach either but if I take a step back to see the “big flick” I can see where the dude’s coming from.
After all, all he’s doing is taking the same grass roots approach early adapters of HTPCing did when trying to divorce themselves from; TIVO, Comcast, Time/Warner, et al to a small extent. The newly found empowerment must be satisfying even if that PC howls like a banshee when he fires it up.
