Nice writeup.
After upgrading my system from Fedora Core 3 to Fedora Core 5 to Fedora 7, I decided that it was time for a clean installation. Granted, I am using Fedora 8 at the moment and not CentOS 5.1 but this guide, as well as the rest, remain very useful to me. My system now loads MUCH faster than it ever did in the past. Upon this recommendation, I have switched to Xfce from Gnome and KDE (both used separately in the past) and it loads much faster. It is just taking a little bit of adjustment getting used to where all the settings are. No problems so far functionally. This guide has been very helpful to me. And it came at just the right time, inspiring me to do a fresh install.
