OK, I asked the question the other day about 5.1 HE-AAC sound and how to decode it on an H264 video. The problem is, I don’t know exactly what I need! These new compression videos are quite confusing. I can play with VLC because from what I understand it has its own set of codecs…is that correct? But no other program can play the H264 on my PC. So what codecs do I need to install? I want to use some player that I can use AC3 filter (which I already have installed) to convert the HE-AAC on the fly to Dolby Digital 5.1. I’ve seen many different codec recommendations. What I want is something fairly simple…I install it and forget it. I don’t want to have to fool with too many settings. I also don’t want to install some kind of pack that’s going to load a bunch of “junk” on the PC that I won’t need or that will cause conflicts with the stuff that’s working. I know someone on here advised someone else on a topic the other day about having a codec pack could cause problems. Is there some way to keep it simple or am I asking too much. VLC is OK, I just want to do the 5.1 conversion. On a separate note, if I connected the 5.1 analog outs from the sound card to the receiver, would I get the 6-channel audio from VLC then?
