Been following various sites for a while to get an htpc setup going. I’m perfectly comfortable upgrading components but don’t think i want to build from scratch. So my plan is to buy a relatively inexpensive unit and then upgrade as needed from there. Hoped to get some comments on this unit….http://htpcguy.com/700batype1.aspx Storage shouldn’t be a problem as I am also looking at getting the hp home server.
I’m not sure what else is pertinent information but some bits and pieces…. I have no setup atm except connections from my desktop to the tv for video and sound. 42″ wall mount tv but not hd, 5.1 speaker setup, no console nor do my wife and I plan to game on the tv. We do that on our computers. We don’t typically rent or buy movies but watch quite a bit of downloaded and streaming. 90% or more of our tv watching is recorded on the cable dvr unit so watching after the initial airing is fine.
I’d like to think we could actually cut the cable with this setup as that $85 a month would go a long way toward paying for these units. Is cutting the cable really feasible yet?
