I would like to configure my HTPC so that when it’s not in use for extended periods of time, and the extenders are not accessing it, that it enters hibernation mode.
My HTPC is solely used as a media centre system which is connected to the living room TV. I’ve got 4 extenders dotted around the house (2 Linksys DMA2100 using wireless and 2 XBox360 using wired network) and I’ve just about to setup a WHS. I would like to get the HTPC to hibernate during extended periods of idle time, but because I haven’t been able to configure it properly to hibernate I end up having it on all the time. The issues I’ve run into are listed below my hardware specifications.

1 x Terratec Cinergy 2400i DVB-t tuner
One of the issues I have is USB re-enumeration. This causes a problem with the Hauppauge card’s 2nd tuner which uses a USB bridge to connect to the PCI slot. When Vista resumes/reboots it will think it’s found new hardware (creating new entries in the registry). This means that 3 of my tuners are rendered useless unless I reconfigure the tuners which rather defeats the purpose.
I cannot resume the PC from hibernation using the MC remote (the Microsoft receiver is a USB device). I have to use a keyboard that is physically connected to the PC which is hardly convenient in the living room environment.

Quite clearly I’m doing something wrong. I’ve experimented with settings in several places including the BIOS, the device manager settings for the network and also the power schemes but to no avail. And before anyone asks, the motherboard in question doesn’t have any jumper setting to invoke WOL, it’s done via the BIOS.
