Without going into the how or why I did it let me just say that I creamed the HDD partition on my HTPC that contained all of my movies, shows and music.
No, I did not create a backup.
No, system restore would not work either.
I used to have an acquaintance that had a copy of GetDataBack on a CD, which I have once had to use in the past but this friend is no longer local. I went to this outfit’s web but they wanted $79 for the unlock key in order to pull the recovered data from the missing drive. All I want to recover, really, is one movie that I ripped and haven’t seen and a documentary I’m fond of. In any case neither of these programs are worth $79 to me.
Next I google free data recovery software and find a few options out there to choose from but I really don’t know what works and what doesn’t, since I’ve only had to employ data recovery once after all.
So my question is; have any of you any experience with some of this free stuff?
Any recommendations?
