So I just found out that Comcast in the Twin Cities, Minnesota, area is going to be switching to all digital (currently digital/analog right now) at the end of March. I currently have 4 tuner cards, a PVR500 (2x SD), V-Box 150 (1x HD), Fusion 5 (1x HD) and a M780 (1x HD & 1x SD). If I understand it correctly, I’ll loose all my SD tuners when the switch happens. Also, Comcast will provide 2 STB free of charge.
I think I’ve got 3 options to keep the channels I currently get:
1. run the S-video output of the STB into two of the SD tuners and use IR blasters (would probably need to buy a USB-IRT).
2. get two HD-PVR and connect the component out of the STB to them, using the HD-PVR IR blasters.
3. use either of the new cablecard tuners coming out (Ceton or SiliconDust), but not sure when they will be out and I’d probably need to rebuild my HTPC for that (should probably do so anyways…)
Am I missing anything?
Thanks,
Mike
