I installed a modem in my WHS for the purpose of caller ID. The box states that CID is a feature of the modem but no calls are being logged.

What type of modem? I played with this back in Vista time-frame and found that a lot of modems had issues with presenting CallerID information properly.

What sw are you using to interact w/ the modem?

YAC. Hmm, could that be the issue. A very outdated piece of software?

For what its worth, a test call succeeds.

You could try the procedure here to verify that Caller ID is working. I assume WHS has a terminal program.

I used to use YAC and, if memory serves, it was kind of picky about what modems it supported.  Did you enable exclusive access to the device in YAC?

Well I can’t seem to find hyperterminal in WHS 2011.

By “exclusive access” are you referring to selecting my modem?  I have my modem selcted to “use all the time” in YAC settings.

You could try installing HTPE, but I’m not sure if it works with Server OS.

Sorry, I don’t remember what the setting was called exactly (been a LONG time since I used YAC) just that one of the modems I used would only work with that setting enabled.

I think I’ve got an external modem laying around that I know was working with YAC. If you want to pay postage, I’ll ship it to you. You’d have to have an RS-232 port on your PC though.

LOL – I think you mean serial port 🙂

I suppose I should have said a serial port that complies with RS-232Embarassed.

Sorry, just thought [that while correct] it was funny to call a serial (clunky, legacy) port on a PC -> RS-232 (high-end A/V feature).

Is there some new feature called “RS-232” on A/V equipment these days, or is it just the same clunky, legacy port found on PC’s that’s now new and exciting because you can use it to control your A/V gear?
