While I don’t have much need for it since Intel HD Graphics has handled everything I’ve thrown at it, if I was an 3D HDTV owner I would jump all over it.
October 11, 2010 at 6:08 pm #28371I think the big question is how noisy is that fan. I can’t tell by the looks what size it is, but it seems tiny, which usually means noisy.
October 11, 2010 at 6:13 pm #28372Well speaking from my own experience w/ EVGA cards they are very quiet. The fan looks to be a similar model that they use on their G 210, GT220 and GT240. The firmware is set to only turn the fan on when needed, in typical HTPC usage that is never.
October 11, 2010 at 6:19 pm #28373Wait a sec, this isn’t the first card to do this from Nvidia, that would have been the GTX 460. This card, however, is a better physical fit for an HTPC.
That is why I said “first HTPC-centric consumer”. The GTX 460 and 450 already offer it but neither is very HTPC friendly w/ the higher power consumption, two-slot form factor and neither is available as low-profile. The GT 420 also offers it but it is an OEM only card.
Ahh, gotcha. Big difference.
The HQV-HD scores aren’t looking that great, so it might be worth waiting a couple drivers to see if they can clear that up.
Well I won’t be buying a new TV anytime soon sadly. But it is a good point. I’m sure the drivers will fix the issues, I believe the G 210 had the problem. Waiting is good, as you’e previously pointed out in other posts now isn’t the best time to invest into HTPCs with 3DTV capabilities.
Once AMD releases their 6xxx series and Intel comes out w/ Sandy Bridge it will be interesting to see which is the preferred HTPC 3DTV platform.

AMD’s open-source 3D initiative seems pretty interesting and seems noteworthy that they will support their 5xxx and perhaps even some 4xxx cards.
October 11, 2010 at 9:31 pm #28380Loss the component output, bummer for those us with slingboxes connected to our HTPCs.
Nvidia’s 3D support is 2 years old, if not more, so just about any nvidia card you’d wanna buy can do it now. Its nice being able to demo 3D with red/blue ‘glasses’ in lieu of 3DTV support from 3DTV Play for those of us who aren’t gonna buy a 3DTV for a long ass time.
