ext2 or ext3 for storage drives?

      yo,

      Converting my dual booting xp & ubuntu pc totally over to ubuntu tommorrow so wondering witch is best filesystem thingy for storage?

      Im sure I read somewhere that ext2 was the only one that you could set them to powerdown when not in use, brobaly dreamt it though. Any ideas?
