Well, guess I’ll be the first one to post in this section. I’ve been thinking about getting a HTPC to use as basically a TIVO box. I’m not looking to play games (other than old ROMS) on it, so it does not need to be bleeding edge graphics technology for that. I’ll be using it to record shows and watch at the same time, so I’ll need to get a dual tuner or two tuners. I’d like to be able to process HDTV as well.
Just to get started, I started looking at the heart: the processor and motherboard. I’ve looked around and I found a pretty good deal. It’s a MSI K8N Neo4 and to go with it an Athlon 64 3800. (http://www.partspc.com/Recommend.asp?Qty=1&ProdID=6159&imageField3.x=49&imageField3.y=9)
I’ve read a few other posters who have similar builds off of this and I was wondering if anyone has had any direct experience or insight as to why this is good or bad. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
