Once they get CableCard support I’ll be on board.
October 13, 2010 at 2:30 pm #28412Yeah, with CableCard Sage would cross one of the only big features still missing from the platform.
October 13, 2010 at 2:31 pm #28413Thanks Andy, this is very helpful for those looking to test and possibly transition to SageTV.
I know I didn’t do half of the steps mentioned and it properly skewed my experience.
October 13, 2010 at 2:42 pm #28414Wow, there’s a lot more to installing than I ever imagined. My cursory install of one of the betas just worked, but then I also was running it purely to check out the interface.
October 13, 2010 at 2:53 pm #2841580% of what Sage does just work OOTB – nailing the other 20% requires effort 🙂
October 13, 2010 at 3:15 pm #28416AnonymousOne thing to note: Â Several of these steps are really only required if you are setting the computer up for playback. Â If only for a server & using an extender its a bit easier and faster.
October 13, 2010 at 3:22 pm #28417Yeah – all the messing with filters (AC3Filter/Ffdshow) is only required for local playback.
October 13, 2010 at 3:34 pm #28418Very nice writeup Andy, although it will probably be rather intimidating for a newbie looking to possibly get started in SageTV.
I have an HdHomerun question for you. I have my HdHomerun set up getting QAM channels from my cable company. It is set up with WMC and works perfect. With SageTV it recognizes the HdHomerun but with the channel scan I get zero channels. In the HdHr setup GUI I have the main application set as WMC, could this cause an issue for SageTV? I have a hauppauge 2250 and I have no problems setting up the 1st tuner as analog with SageTV but once again with the QAM tuner I get no channels ( I set up Tuners as Digital TV Tuner -> Use Tuner on Capture Card to tune Cable TV, etc…)
October 13, 2010 at 3:41 pm #28419It does need to be set to SageTV as the main application, well at least when I was testing it had to be. I didn’t spend much time trying work-arounds though.Â
You also have to do a few steps manually for the channel EPG to match up. I followed the directions from http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34196 and was able to get it working.
October 13, 2010 at 3:42 pm #28420Sorry – I don’t have a HDHR or use QAM in Sage. Â The m780s I used in the guide should be able to handle QAM though, so I’ll give it a go and see what’s different.
Thanks, I will test out. I was worried that setting SageTV as the main application would then kill the HdHr in WMC, but only one way to find out!!!
October 13, 2010 at 4:25 pm #28422AnonymousNice write up. Can ffdshow be used to decode TruHD and DTS-MA to LPCM/PCM ? I don’t do bit streaming, just analog out from a Xonar D2x to the analog inputs on an Onkyo 606.

October 13, 2010 at 4:28 pm #28423It can decode TrueHD to LPCM, but will only decode core DTS from DTS-MA. There is a way to get the ArcSoft audio decoder to decode both to lossless LPCM, but that’s a more advanced topic 🙂
October 13, 2010 at 4:45 pm #28424AnonymousI’m trying to ditch TMT and go strictly with Sage v7…PM the “Advanced Topic” please 🙂 I have access to all the TMT 2 & 3 filters.

October 13, 2010 at 4:54 pm #28425Nothing that needs to be kept under wraps, just something I haven’t tried and found on Doom9 which requires some system modifications.
