Does anybody have any tips on setting up a Harmony One beyond basic programming?

I just began monkeying around last night and I’m trying to maximize the functionality.  I leave my HTPC on 24/7 so I’m attempting to add a stop command when I power down and guide command when I power up.  It seems that when I do power up it goes straight to recorded TV.

Never the less, I’m sure I will find some sort of resolve but I’m wondering what others are doing to customize and optimize their MC experience with the Harmony One.

I configured my computer as a Microsoft Media Center Keyboard & then adjusted the power button settings within the Harmony software.  You can set the “power on” button to Guide or LiveTV, or whatever you want.  Also, set the “power off” button to Alt-F4 to close MediaCenter or you could set it to Stop in order to leave MediaCenter open, but stop playback.

I’ve tweaked mine like crazy and I’ve even set up AutoHotKey to create keyboard shortcuts for MyMovies and Netflix. My IR receiver is an iMon VFD & so I was able to reassign the keyboard shortcuts for unused buttons (like Movies, Videos, Radio, etc.) to perform the keyboard shortcuts I created with AutoHotKey.  Then I created custom buttons on the Harmony for Netflix and MyMovies to send the unused commands that I remapped within iMon.  This may sound confusing, but it’s really not as bad as it sounds.  It was pretty easy to setup once I got the hang of AutoHotKey.

The “Windows Media Center SE” device in the Harony software also gives some more options for tweaking. Using all the available commands in conjunction with AHK will likely satisfy your requirements.

I’m using the “SE” device in my configuration and the menu button seems to default to my movie collection.  I tried to customize it but always pulls up my movie collection.

Just when I thought it was tip top…

Just add all three of them. That’s what I do. Then you can pick and choose what commands you want.

BTW, don’t you just love the Harmony software…

You’re brilliant! …and the software couldn’t make it any easier.

I’m still having a rough time getting the menu to behave no matter what remote I choose.

How many remote devices are there?

                Media Center

                Media center SE

                MS-1039

                MCE-1039

                Keyboard 1044

                Are all 5 different?

I found that the three covered it for me WMC, WMC Keyboard and SE. I haven’t tried the others.

I’m a boob! After recreating devices and activities I realized that there was also “customize buttons” per activity.  I tried changing it in the device itself to no avail.

It’s enough to make one Cry or Yell.
