Just opened my friday Fry’s advert. to see a small bar that said they were clearing out the Core 2 Quad Q6600 for just $189. I assume this is to make way for the new 45nm core Intel CPUs that occupy the same price point.

This is really tempting, I’m trying to think of a way to justify overhauling my desktop PC with one of these babies.
They have a TDP of 105 watts so I wouldn’t put them in a client HTPC, but if you have a media server that serves content to 4+ extenders/clients this is probably a great investment, likewise if you want to beef up your desktop/video editing/gaming rig(s) this is a great CPU for that.
