I’m still a bit lost when it comes to the audio portion of my HTPC build. I know part of the decoding is software based such as Nvidia’s Pure Video decoder, But what hardware is necessary. I am going to be amplifying through my stereo reciever (DD, DTS 5.1 only) as I’m not interested in high def yet. A lot of the cards I’ve looked at have the DD, DTS processors built on them already.
Should I let the reciever process the audio portions or should I get a realy good soundcard and let it process the audio portions. My reciever does have 7.1 inputs/throughputs on it. Or is a soundcard even necessary, should I just use the onboard audio. My MB uses a Realtek ALC850 chipset. I’ve been looking at the HT Omega Claro, but I want to make sure I’m clear about how the audio will be processed before I commit to an audio card.
