Hello,
I currently use a standard MCE remote and a Lenovo Wireless Keyboard N5901 to control my HTPC. The remote works fine, however, the keyboard is finnicky. Some times it works, other times it does not. I’ve tried replacing batteries, moving the receiver to a different USB port, etc. but it doesn’t work consistently for me.
Anyway, ideally I would like a universal remote that will work with MCE and has a built in keyboard. I have searched but haven’t found anything. Has anybody seen something like this? I’d like to have one remote for all of my A/V equipment and be able to use that remote as a keyboard when needed. Thanks!
Cheers,

Hrmm….I can’t think of any device that is both a universal remote AND includes a keyboard. If you can live without the extra universal features and just want a remote with MCE functionality and a keyboard, i’ve been a fan of the Logitech Dinovo Mini for a long time.
TiVo does have a remote with a keyboard in it, so i think there are basic universal features there…but not sure how good that can work if there are drivers for PC or not (my guess is not).
Maybe a USB-IR extender and then use an ipad or ipod touch as your remote? Kinda clunky but possible yah?

Thanks. I’ve heard the Dinovo is good, but it’s a bit pricey. Although such a universal remote wouldn’t be cheap either. I’ve considerd an iPhone/iTouch solution as well.

It’s come down in price, i’ve seen it often brand new for around $80 (when it started it was $130), maybe cheaper on ebay?
Mikinho had some issues with it since he has kids who like to use remotes as footballs, but i’ve never had an issue. And the trackpad also works as arrows so perfect for MCE control.

I use the original MS MCE keyboard with thumbstick. As long as the IR receiver is in a good location I have never had any trouble with it. I’ve also used my EVO (Android) phone with Gmote to control it also.
I wish another company would make a MS MCE keybaord like device in a smaller package. Perhaps that is the DiNovo. But I seem to always miss the sale and when I look it is up around 120. I need to set a price alert on it.
