Has anyone else tried to update to the latest Intel HD Graphics driver version 2509, currently being pushed via Windows Update? I did a few systems here with interesting results:
1) System 1: DH67BL Core i3-2100T, running 1080p to HDMI-Detective to Yamaha HTR-5063 to Samsung 50″ Plasma. Result: No display through HDMI. TV seems to be getting something it can’t handle. Shows no signal. Had to rollback to 2361 to solve issues.
2) System 2: DH67CF Pentium G620T, running 1080p direct to Sharp Aquos 32″ LCD. Result: No display through HDMI. TV shows signal incompatible. Rollback to 2361 solves issues.
3) System 3: DH67CF Pentium G620T, running 1366×768 (custom resolution setup with Intel display config utility) direct to older Sharp Aquos 37″ (one of the first with the separate breakout box for most of the guts). Results: no problems.
Looks like Intel is having a hell of a time creating stable drivers…
PS. All the systems above are running Win7 Ultimate, 32-bit.
September 30, 2011 at 3:52 am #31509Aaron LedgerI just upgraded a x64 DH67BL (to Samsung plasma via Denon) and see no issues although I downloaded direct from Intel. I generally never use the WU drivers. In this case, I am not sure if there is a difference.

I did update them all through WU. I’ll try updating manually (after a uninstall back to default VGA driver) by downloading from Intel Download Center and see what happens.
September 30, 2011 at 3:49 pm #31514RehabManThis morning I applied the update using the downloaded files from Intel. No problems on any of the machines…
I guess in the future I’ll use the WU as notification only when it comes to driver updates…
September 30, 2011 at 4:55 pm #31516Aaron LedgerI guess it’s not surprising. I’ve had mixed results in the past with WU drivers so I always get them from the manufacturer now.

I never use WU drivers. Even the notifications are jacked up, they often push an outdated driver overtop a newer one that I’ve installed manually.
If you are running Intel HW they offer RSS feeds for the specific components, it’s the best low effort way to stay up to date.
October 1, 2011 at 9:41 pm #31530RehabManI’ll have to try the RSS feeds… Although I notice that the feed for DH67BL doesn’t have the 2509 display driver yet. Some things Intel does really don’t make sense (push 2509 on Windows Update, have it available from Intel HD Graphics search, but not have it show when you search by motherboard model number)… But you can always subscribe (I use FeedDemon) to the display driver feed directly.
Thanks for the tip!
October 1, 2011 at 10:59 pm #31531captain_videoWhenever I see a driver update for any hardware posted in WU I always hide the update and download the driver straight from the manufacturer’s site. I don’t mind it if Microsoft wants to update their own software, but I’d rather take driver updates right from the source.

Wondered about that myself. Will do the same in the future.
