Greetings to all; this is my first post here.

I am looking at building a new HTPC; Ivy Bridge + HD 4000 + Z77 with HDMI audio & video coming directly from the features on these chips.

My HDTV, AVR, HTPC are all connected by HDMI 1.4a and I  want the HTPC to be responsible for processing 3D Blu-ray sending it through the AVR.

I am especially interested in understanding the relationship (if any) between the analog audio on the computer and digital coming from the HDMI.

For example ASRock Z77 Pro4-M LGA has as a listed feature 7.1 CH HD Audio with Content Protection (Realtek ALC892 Audio Codec), Supports THX TruStudio. Does this effect digital output from HDMI?

Thanks for your comments and help.

No. Digital audio is processed in your AVR where it will convert to analog and amplify the signal for your speakers. The fancy sounding audio features on the motherboard will not be utilized.

Thanks for the brief comment. My AVR is not a Blu-ray player. The HTPC is acting as a 3D Blu-ray player.
