The concept here is very good. The problem that I see with this is that the one that I need this most for is the strip that sits behind my entertainment center and I’d think that I’d have trouble getting an IR signal back there. RF on the other hand would have definite promise. You’d just need a universal remote that does RF as well as IR… :-\
