I moved away from HTPCs in favor of a tivoHD last year so I haven’t been around for a bit, but recently I got ahold of a laptop with a broken screen that I am now using as a DVD player/downloaded video player (if there is one thing that tivo is terrible at its playing .avi files) using VMC.
Currently I am using an rf wireless keyboard to control VMC, but that is a bit cumbersome. I’d like to just use my tivo remote (utilizing the dvr 1/2 switch to keep the two separate). to only have one remote for daily use is a long-time dream (and the tivo peanut is such a perfect form factor).
Assuming I have a USB IR receiver, is HIP going to be the best way to teach the computer to understand the IR commands sent by the tivo remote?
