I’ve recently moved into a new house that I’m renting. Unfortunately its not wired for ethernet and my fileserver is in a spare bedroom that we’re turning into an office.  I’m sure I can snake a wire along the baseboard which wouldn’t show much at all to get my HTPC connected via gigabit ethernet(although the fiance may not like it that much.). Its also possible that may be able to get permission to drill a few holes to run wires more permanently and out of site. But in all of this, I’m left wondering if I really need the wires at all. Can wireless N handle all my streaming needs?

I just noticed that N has a maximum bitrate of 600 mbps which is more than the maximum bitrate of a bluray.  SageTV is also a good ways into getting their hd extender compatible with a wireless N- adapter.

So before I spend tons of effort carefully routing wires or before I spend a bunch of money upgrading to wireless N, I’d like to know which is the better solution for my needs.
