Okay, I admit that I’m a HUGE fan of this TV show and was upset that it got cancelled. But, I had no idea that there were so many other people out there who also loved the show. If you’ve never watched it, here’s a quick summary:
The storyline revolves about the residents of Jericho, a small, rural Kansas town, in the aftermath of a series of nuclear attacks on most major cities in the contiguous United States. The series begins with a visible nuclear detonation of unknown origin over nearby Denver, Colorado, and a loss of power and modern communications, effectively isolating Jericho.
The cast is amazing and the storyline is truly riveting. What’s amazing is that the deluge of email, telephone calls, postcards, snail mail, and some 50,000 nuts to CBS studios on both coasts managed to change the studio’s mind in just 3 weeks.
The official press release, as well as some very creative videos of the effort are posted on the NutsOnline.com site right here. 3 actors from the show even posted their own “thank you” video on YouTube, directed at the fans. I honestly never thought this could happen, but it’s due to come back in the fall for a 7 episode run, after re-airing the first season over the summer, as well as the DVD release on Sept. 25th. So, I wanted to get the word out about this show and hopefully get some others hooked on this awesome series. We’re fighting for season 3 now and CBS has asked for fan support in getting more viewers.
If anyone’s curious about where the “nuts” idea came from, it’s a reference to the final scene of the final episode, where the main character, Jake Green, tells an invading town “NUTS!” in response to their request to surrender. This itself is a reference to General Anthony McAuliffe’s historic phrase “Nuts!” from the Battle of Bastogne in World War II.
