Great review, Netflix is my new favorite plug-in (and that includes my own :)).
The server loopback thing is actually pretty neat. Forum users Snapdaddy actually had the original idea and Morgan liked it so much that he added a few extra hooks in his plug-in to automate some of the clunkier aspects. And as you said, once you’ve got everything set up properly its pretty transparent. You just select “Watch It Now”, and it automatically tunes to the proper channel bypassing the standard OSD, and (aside from a quick shot of your server’s desktop before the player loads) everything works just like on a regular client. Its so easy my GF was using it and didn’t even realize there was any difference between “Watch It Now” and playing a regular recording.
There are a few little gotcha’s for making loopback work. First of all, you can’t run Sage as a service with user privileges. You’re only options are to run a local copy (I do this) which you lose some of the stability advantages and to run it as a service as a local user w/access to the desktop but this loses you some of your network privileges.
In addition, loopback eats up one of your tuners so if you’re watching while there’s stuff to record its possible you might bump it. I take care of this by having a dedicated loopback tuner but for people not lucky enough to have a spare PVR-150 laying around it could be a bit of an issue.
