I want to build a system that I can watch HDTV and other media, game on the big screen, do HD video editing (I use Sony Vegas) of video recorded on my HD videocam.
My sources are digital HD from dish network (1080i), OTA , HD video cam, downloaded video, Bluray.
I want to be able to use Samsung 50″ DLP 1080i and Samsung 52″ LCD 1080p in different rooms.
Will ultimately want to render edits to Bluray when the burners/media get cheap and faster.
Need lots of storage and redundancy. Need to be able to multitask (watch, record, game, surf) on both sets simultaneously and possibly 3rd monitor.
Size/heat/noise are not an issue as the system will be isolated but close to monitors. Within 25 feet or so.
My biggest problem is NO BROADBAND available. No cable,DSL only dial up. I have had satellite but it sucks and there is a monthly data limit of 1.5 gigs. The good news is I have a second abode with high speed 10Gig so I can use a ext drive so I need a mobo with eSATA.
I would like to hear any hardware/software/op sys recommendations and how I get the sources to the board (do I need tuners/capture cards/HDMI/DVI/etc) and what are the implications with HDCP.
I’m looking for value not cheap. Cost is not a big issue but I would like to be able to scale and upgrade. Highly prefer AMD systems. I have built a dozen systems but mainly workstations. I do have one which has a ATI All In Wonder card so I have done some stuff with video from cam and cable in SD.
